Sunday 4th August: – Family Bowls at the Childwall Abbey.

24 members and their families enjoyed a friendly game of Crown Green Bowls at the Childwall Abbey Public House. In fine British style rain didn’t stop play and the winning team were Charles and Jean Doyle. Well Done! All then retired to the dining room and enjoyed a late Sunday Lunch. Our thanks to Phil Gray for organizing.

Saturday 17th August: – History Walk at the Pier Head and around.

Brothers and friends from 164 and neighbouring circles went on a two and a half hour History Walk on Saturday 17^th August 2013.

The walk was led by Phil, who is a local history tutor for the Liverpool Adult Learning Service. We started off at the Cunard Buildings at the Pier Head and went through the gardens of the Church of Our Lady and St. Nicholas. We then progressed up Tithebarn Street leading to the prayer garden where Holy Cross church used to be. It is thought that this is where St. Patrick preached on his way to Ireland.We finished our walk with an enjoyable buffet lunch at the Vernon Pub in Dale Street.

The area was brought to life with information on the local buildings and history. Our sincere thanks to Pam and Phil.

Queensway Tunnel Tour:- Saturday 7th September.

22 Brothers, family and friends set off at 10.00am to explore the Queensway Tunnel on a very interesting and enjoyable walk courtesy of MerseyTravel and their two guides,  Diane and Helen.

Setting off in high visibility jackets and hard hats we climbed to the top the ventilation towers in Georges Dock Building and were shown the gigantic fans extracting foul air and pumping in fresh. Then with over 120 steps down we were at the road side, watching the traffic before viewing the 8 Million pound safety refuges built under the roadway. It was a fascinating insight into and incredible engineering project completed in 1934.A small party repaired to the Vernon for lunch for some very necessary refreshment.
