Brother Jim Burke – R.I.P.
Brother Jim Burke – R.I.P.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Brother Jim Burke, Immediate Past President, died peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton on the weekend of 2nd/3rd September 2017.
Our prayers and sympathy go to his family.
May he rest in peace.
Requiem Mass for Brother Jim will be on Tuesday 12th September at 12 noon at St Mary’s, Church Road, Woolton L25 5JF, followed by refreshments at Woolton Golf Club, Doe Park, Speke Road, Liverpool L25 7TZ.
To help with catering, Jim’s family has requested that you let Bro. Ciaran Byrne (0151 738 0678 or email ciaranbyrne@hotmail.com) know if you will be going to the golf club afterwards.
Jim was a long standing and well respected Catenian, who completed his very successful year as President in May 2017. He will be remembered for his gentle humour and commitment to the Catenians.
He organised the Circle visit to St Albans in June 2016, which included Mass at the Cathedral and a visit to Bletchley Park. All who went enjoyed the occasion.
With his long association with Hope University (he had been Rector of the newly formed University), Jim was able to arrange for the 700th meeting of the Circle to be celebrated at Hope University Chapel and Refectory. Mass was celebrated by the Archbishop of Liverpool, the Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon, O.P. This was the high point of an excellent year.
David Willson, Past President – 2015-2016
