Liverpool 4 Circle Historic Walk – From Bro. Brian Cleary 4 Circle

As there is no meeting in August, we are holding a walk for brothers who have too much time on their hands during this month, it is an open invitation (Friends / family etc) and the walk starts as follows:

Meeting point. Outside James St Station, 12:30pm on Thursday 13th August.

I will lead the walk around the historic original 7 streets of Liverpool it is intended to take around 1.5 – 2 hours and cover about 2 miles of relatively flat ground.

The route follows the “Seven Streets” walk in medieval Liverpool, a 2-mile (3 km) circular route starting and finishing at James Street Railway Station. The walk explores the H-shaped layout of the city’s original seven streets, revealing over 800 years of history since King John issued a Royal Charter in 1207.

The walk highlights Liverpool’s past as the second port of the British Empire, reflected in its architecture, stone carvings, and reliefs. It encourages participants to look for interesting details, dates on guttering, and elaborate carved stones, particularly along Castle Street and in the Exchange Flags area. Many buildings have been repurposed into hotels, and Castle Street offers a European feel with its cafés and pedestrian walkways.

The original seven streets were Dale Street, Castle Street, Chapel Street, Moor Street (now Tithebarn Street), Bancke Street (now Water Street), Peppard or Mill Street (now Old Hall Street), and Juggler Street (now High Street). Along the route, which features paved roads, walkways, and steps, walkers will also encounter secret bunkers, the world’s first skyscraper, and a Superlambanana.

..….Oh and a few famous pubs, including the oldest surviving one in Liverpool which celebrated its 300th year landmark only a few months ago. So, if you have a thirst for knowledge or just a thirst come along it’s free. I suspect a lunch time stop somewhere agreeable is on the cards this may lengthen the time of the walk obviously.
