Inaugural meeting.
Some notes from our records on the founding of the Circle:
On Monday, 2nd March 1953, Bros Jack Cole, Alf Finnegan and Tom Padden signed the Roll together with 20 other gentlemen who were the founder members of the Circle, at the inaugural meeting at the Exchange Hotel, Liverpool.The Grand President and 89 brothers were present.
After the meeting, 69 had dinner and the total cost was £72.0s.5d. Dinner at the Childwall Abbey cost 8/6d and a big night on the eve of the Coronation was 10/- per head and ladies were present. The first Circle Dance was held at Liverpool Airport – tickets 10/- per head and 174 attended.
The President’s first visit was to Preston Circle and the next to No:74. When visiting Chester and Birkenhead, it must have been by train as the meeting up place was the Oyster Bar in Old Hall Street.
Jack Cole was installed as Treasurer on 4th May 1953 at the Childwall Abbey Hotel and the Grand President attended the November meeting in that year.
