Address to Circle Meeting, by Arran Kearney, Lay Chaplain, St Anselm’s College.

At the Circle meeting and dinner on Monday 14th September, the Circle welcomed as its guest Arran Kearney, Lay Chaplain at St Anselm’s College, Birkenhead.

Arran related how he had been brought up as a practising Catholic and attended St Anselm’s High School, Birkenhead.

Arran became a keen amateur sportsman and runner during his time as a pupil at the College and obtained a sport’s scholarship to a Sport’s College in Tennessee, USA. He was welcomed with open arms and after a successful 4 years, obtaining his degree, returned to his home in Birkenhead. This time strengthened his faith and made him certain that its values were essential for the modern world.

After a chance meeting with the Headmaster of St Anselm’s College, he joined the staff at the College as its Lay Chaplain and qualified as a teacher.

He described his role as Lay Chaplain as one of support and guidance to the pupils and staff. He found the role both demanding and satisfying. His faith providing a clear ethos and moral guide for him.
