Visit to Mounted Branch, Merseyside Police. 10.30am Friday 29th May.

22 Brothers, wives and families enjoyed a very informative and pleasant visit to the stables of the Mounted Branch, Merseyside Police in Allerton, Liverpool, organised by South Liverpool South Circle. Two Police Officers explained the role of the Branch and the training of both the horses and riders.

One the the party was Brother George Jones from St Helens Circle who served in the Mounted Branch for 22 years of his 31years service in the Merseyside Police. He thoroughly enjoyed the visit and was talking animatedly about his experiences. He recognised a photo of himself dealing with a demonstrator and was able endorse it with the date, Aintree 1992, and his name. Also on display was a range of photographs charting the history of the branch and historic equipment including dress uniforms no longer used.

We were able to visit the tack room and the officers explained the bridle and saddlery and how it was used. Also they demonstrated the equipment available to the officer riding to enable the officer to undertake the various roles required.

My thanks go to Constables Jess and Alan for their very friendly and professional guidance of the visit and to Lindsay Gaven, Stable Manager for facilitating the visit
